Description

Medium: Watercolor on wood

Dimensions: 30" H x 48" W

This painting was the result of an argument with a friend that claimed that all art, whether figurative or abstract, was the result of a plan or story by its creator. In short, that every artist has an idea in mind as they create their artwork. I disagreed… and then I attempted to create evidence to support my view. This painting was created by first numbering two dozen different colors of paint. Then, with the use of a random number generator, I creating a long list of numbers. This random list of numbers was used to dictate the colors I painted as I moved from the top left corner of this board to the bottom right. Each small segment of wood was painted with the specified color and the result, either aesthetic or bland, is the result of randomness.
