Do we notice the beauty that is around us? Down Around the Corner is an exhibit of paintings which capture the beauty I see around me. The landscape paintings are fairly traditional in the impressionist style. The more abstract flower paintings are part of a huge series of paintings which depict parts of Fr. Tom Hosinki’s garden at Holy Cross Court – a beautiful garden around the corner from my front door. The ink wash is scenes from Salzburg, Austria and its surrounding countryside.
I try to depict what I am attracted by in the scenes I am painting. These paintings are done in an impressionist style and I enjoy the challenge of quickly depicting that which I am beholding. My hope is that these spontaneously painted images contain a vibrancy which capture the beauty of the moment.
