Factors that Enhance Student-Teacher Relationships
The purpose of this research is to investigate factors that enhance student-teacher relationships and whether they affect a student’s outlook towards education. The results of this investigation were gathered by 21 students ranging from the ages 13-14 years of the age in a predominately low to mid socio-economic area in Western Canada. Three factors in particular were investigated: athletics/extra-curricular activities, emotional and academic support through a qualitative process, which included journaling, think-pair -shares and observation. The results show a strong connection between building positive student-teacher relationships and a positive outlook towards their education. This research allows educators to understand the importance of building student-teacher relationships and the affect on students’ connection towards the educational system. Recommendations include expanding this form of research in a more affluent area.
