The Impact of Social Justice Projects on Students to Become Agents of Change
This study analyzed the impact of Social Justice Projects on students to become agents of change. This was accomplished through qualitative methods of data collection and analysis, namely monthly reflection assignments, weekly journal entries, and surveys. Participants were 29 students from a Junior High School in Western Canada. The data collected revealed that students developed a passionate approach towards social justice. Through their fundraising activities throughout the study, students were engaged and developed a sense of empathy towards their projects. Results indicate that by not only learning but also experiencing social justice, students were more encouraged to become agents of change. Recommendations include introducing more schools to the importance of Social Justice Projects in order to encourage students to become agents of change.
